Sea Chests

SEA & CAPTAIN'S CHESTS
These elegant and practical chests are equally at home both ashore and at sea.
Please call us to discuss your requirements
Our sea and Captain's chests are made from English oak, locally sourced from the forests of Hampshire, with hand cut dovetailed joints, an oak lip around the lid and runners on the base, the best veneer faced marine grade plywood is used for the lid and bottom and at least six coats of marine grade varnish ensures that your chest is weatherproof with a fine long lasting mirror finish.  These sea and Captain's chests will always be admired and commented on whether in your home or on your yacht or ship.

Our chests are used to carry our tools and spend a large part of their day in the workshop or in boatyards and take their fair share of knocks, but their robust construction  means they still look great, as shown in the pictures of my own chest.  The dimensions are 90cm * 45cm * 30cm, although we can adjust these for a custom fit if necessary.  We will also personalise your chest to include an engraved brass plate and offer a range of different handles, interior fittings and locks.

These chests are an investment and will become a heirloom to be passed down the family, gathering tales of adventures in distant oceans or days well spent in the study.

These pictures were taken at Forton lake in Gosport, the final resting place of several fine vessels.  The chest is on the chain channel of the Cowes chain ferry circa 1920, which after being decommissioned was used as a workshop by the great sailor, designer and boatbuilder Uffa Fox.
